February 2009If you would like to receive the SVA TU newsleter in your email, please send an email to Tom Tinkle. Hello everyone. I hope you've been able to get out and do some fishing in the great weather we've been having. I've been lucky enough to make it out several times this winter and have been rewarded with many fine fish, good times and good company. It's a pleasure to brave the elements and do what you love in conditions that might discourage others. I thought the January TU calendar picture captured the beauty and solitude of fishing Colorado in the winter quite well. On to business… The February general meeting is chili and slide presentation night. Seven member chefs are preparing pots of red and green chili for all of us, and we'll have slide presentations on bonefishing the Bahamas with Andrew Johann, carp fishing (that's the Colorado bonefish) with Andrew Spinato and on the CTU Youth camp with Cody Burgdorff. Colorado TU President Ken Neubecker will also be here to address the membership and check out our chapter. There's still room for another slide show or two, so if you'd like to put something together, please contact Mark Rayman at mflyfish@msn.com. As always there will be a cash bar, fly tying, bucket raffle, slide show and chapter talk. Chili night is always a lot of fun, so please join us Thursday, February19th, 6:30pm at the VFW on South Main. The Saint Vrain Anglers Trout Unlimited chapter is thriving right now, thanks to our members and Board of Directors. We have some money in the bank, a vision of how to utilize these resources and a desire to make our part of the world a little bit better. Directing the vision and the resources is both rewarding and enlightening. Our board members have all volunteered their time and expertise to further the causes that our chapter members support. Many board members are serving multiple terms because they believe in the work we are doing, and would welcome new volunteers to continue in their stead. Please consider stepping up and into a leadership role with our chapter, to help keep SVATU a relevant and innovative part of our community. The next chapter fishing trip is slated for the weekend of March 28-29. Block this weekend out on your schedule because we always have a good time on these excursions. We shoot for an over-nighter but try to stay close enough that day-trippers can come as well. Location TBD and we welcome any input you might have. Email Mark Rayman at mflyfish@msn.com with ideas. Locations suggested so far are Eleven-Mile Canyon and the Colorado River near Hot Sulfur Springs. Check out the web-site! Kudos to William Brower who is doing a great job bringing the chapter's site up to speed. He's soliciting photos from everyone to put on the site and represent our membership. Check it out at www.svatu.org… Our fundraiser this year is scheduled for May 9th, and will be a party in celebration of the past and future accomplishments of SVATU. Mark Kyner is putting together a small, but impressive collection of items for auction and high-roller raffle to pique your interest. We'll have the three B's … Burgers, Brats and Beer, in a no-pressure, relaxed atmosphere. This will be a lot of fun so please mark it on your calendar. I'm still taking names for the fishing partner email group. If you would like to be notified when someone in the group posts a trip or available fishing day, or would like to let others know when you are free to go, drop a line to stvraintu@gmail.com or reply to this message and I'll get you in the group. Could be a good way to fish new places with new faces every now and then. Thanks, everyone. Hope to see you on the 19th. T. SVATU Board:
