November 2008If you would like to receive the SVA TU newsleter in your email, please send an email to Tom Tinkle. Hello all. Where's the snow? On average, we get our first snow in the middle of October, and the latest first snow was Nov. 21 back in 1934. I don't know about you, but I love fishing when there's snow on the ground and especially when it's flying around in the air. On the other hand, the weather has been awfully nice. Trout fishing has been good, but unfortunately the carp season is about done. Time to think small bugs for big trout, I suppose. On to business… The November general meeting will feature Tim Kirkpatrick from Steamboat Fly Fisher. We will get the inside information on fishing Northwestern Colorado, focusing on the Yampa River and it's tributaries. We'll also hear about the fine tail-water under Steamboat Reservoir for all those sturdy souls who would like to fish there this winter. As always there will be a cash bar, fly tying, bucket raffle, slide show and chapter talk. Should be a fun and informative meeting. November 20th, 6:30pm at the VFW on South Main. This will be our last general meeting until January, so we can all take some time off for the holidays. Enjoy! Mark Rayman is currently working on putting together a group fishing trip for this winter. Places discussed were Elevenmile Canyon (where we went last year and had a ball), the Colorado River near Hot Sulfur Springs and the Yampa River at Steamboat Springs. Please drop a line with any other suggestions. We will keep everyone informed about the trip. These trips are a lot of fun and give everyone a chance to fish together and get to know one another better. We are still putting our annual report to National TU together and would appreciate a brief accounting of everyone's volunteer hours. You may simply reply to this email with an estimate of your volunteer hours for the last fiscal year, which ran from October 2007 through September 2008. It does not have to be itemized or anything, if you send us a "4" we'll figure it out. Thanks. Donate your car! Well, maybe not, but any items you may want to donate to the chapter for raffles, auctions or other fund-raising would be greatly appreciated (and tax-deductible). Again, reply to this email if there is something you would like to contribute. Thanks again. Barbara is still looking for some good photos for the slide show she prepares for the general meetings, and she's handing out a prize for the best pic each month. She'd like pics of our projects and activities, fish pics, scenery, or anything else to do with the chapter. You may email them to Barbara at mflyfish@msn.com or reply to this email and I'll forward them along. Old school photographers can snail-mail photos to 1445 Mayfield Circle, Longmont, 80501. Please include a SASE if you'd like for me to return your pictures. We continue to seek people interested in taking on leadership positions with the chapter, particularly treasurer and fund-raising chairman. If this interests you, please drop an email or talk to a board member. The work is quite rewarding, and fun, too. We'd also like to hear ideas from everyone on potential projects, how to increase membership or make SVATU better community partners. Feel free to attend a board meeting, held the first Thursday of the month (reply for time and place), to help set the direction of the chapter. Thanks, everyone. Hope to see you on the 20th, T.
