September 2009If you would like to receive the SVA TU newsleter in your email, please send an email to Tom Tinkle. What happened to the summer? Seems like just yesterday I was waiting for runoff to subside and now the trees are starting to turn. We still have a couple of months of great weather and fishing left, I hope everyone can get out and enjoy it all. But for now we'll get down to some chapter biz… Thanks to everyone who came out for the stream clean-up in June. It was great to see a few new faces out there and everyone did a great job scouring the creek that day. Our fall stream clean-up day this year is the 26th of September. Our chapter cleans a section of the S. St. Vrain and Hwy. 7 near Lyons. We will meet at Sandstone Park, 350 Broadway in Lyons @ 8:00 a.m., have coffee and doughnuts, then head up Hwy. 7 to our designated area and clean along the river 'til we are done. This will not take more than a couple of hours, so please pack a rod and wet a line once the clean up is complete (my favorite part). Everyone should bring gloves and proper clothing. We will provide trash bags and orange vests. There will be a PRIZE! for the person finding the most interesting or unusual item that day. Our first general meeting and program is Thursday, September 17th, 6:30pm at the VFW on S. Main. As always, Mark Rayman has been working hard to put together a great season of programs and this month he brings us Andy Bryant, a well-respected and sought-after guide in southern Colorado. Andy has been fishing in the Gunnison Basin since the 1960's and guiding there since the 1990's. He is now lead guide and manager at the Sportsman Outdoors Fly Shop in Lake City. He is in the process of writing a guidebook for the Lake Fork basin and wrote the Lake Fork section for a recent article on the Gunnison River in Fly Fisherman Magazine. Andy spends the winter months at his permanent residence in Longmont, Colorado. William would still like to get pictures from y'all to put up on the website. Just visit the site at www.svatu.org, go to the "Your Pictures" page and click the link for William at the bottom. Much thanks. The SVATU Board is very proud of all the great work the chapter has accomplished recently, including our involvement with stream-flow and headgate upgrades on the St. Vrain, catch and release designation in Lyons, Dick's kids' fly-fishing classes and our Kid's Fishing Days, stream clean-ups and samplings, charitable donations, community outreach and education, and so much more. Thanks to all our members who have contributed time and money to get these things going. There are still plenty of opportunities for our chapter to make a difference, and a sizeable bank account to accomplish our goals. However, all these good works, and the very existence of our chapter may be in jeopardy. Many of our board members have served multiple two-year terms, either in their present capacity or other positions on the board. They have done a wonderful job but deserve a break. We need some members to step up and fill board positions to keep the chapter alive and dynamic. Please speak with a board member today and help fill the positions soon to be vacated. We need to fill positions by Jan 1 or the Board will not have enough members to move forward. Positions we're looking for: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Stream Committee help. Come to a Board meeting and check it out. Dinner and 2 drinks are on us. I want to thank everyone who has donated time, effort and money to making SVATU what it is today. A special shout-out to Mark Kyner who volunteered to chair our spring fund-raiser. Thanks. T SVATU Board:
