  • Spring 2023, date TBD

STREAM Girls is an outdoor watershed experience that employs STEM-education (science, technology, engineering, math) plus recreation and arts to explore a local stream. By visiting a local stream and having the opportunity to observe it as scientists, anglers, and artists, Girl Scouts in the 4th through 8th grade (juniors and cadettes) will get the complete picture of what their stream could mean to them. Volunteers help teams of Girl Scouts at Izaak Walton Park in Longmont as they observe a stream, collect flow data, sample macro-invertebrates (aka aquatic bugs), tie flies, and learn fly casting. Come help mentor our next generation of scientists!

  • September 2023, Date TBD

Join St. Vrain Anglers, Can’d Aid, City of Longmont and The Watershed Center as a Citizen Scientist in an effort to collect data and monitor the health of the St. Vrain Creek. Volunteers work in small teams to collect, identify, and catalog aquatic macroinvertebrates. If you like nature and attention to detail, this is a fun look at life below the water in our streams. Scientists from the City of Longmont and Trout Unlimited lead the teams. Join as a leader or a participant.

  • August through May

Trout in the Classroom is largely a school directed program supported and funded by Trout Unlimited. Within the chapter geography, Lyons Elementary and Niwot High School are raising trout from eggs to fry every school year. The school liaison acts as a coordinator between the classroom teacher and various resources available through the chapter and state council.
